Jumanji (1995) – Robin Williams

A board game that brings the jungle into your living room, and a man who spent twenty-six years trapped inside it. Robin Williams makes Jumanji a wild, funny and surprisingly tender adventure.

Released in 1995, Jumanji stars Williams as Alan Parrish, a boy who is sucked into a magical board game in 1969 and released as an adult in the present day, when two children begin playing the same game. The jungle follows him: lions, monkeys, a stampede and a hunter all spill into a quiet New Hampshire town.

Williams plays Alan as a man who never quite grew up, because he never got the chance. His fear, humour and eventual courage give the film its heart, and his scenes with the children turn a special-effects adventure into a story about family and second chances.

It is a signature family role: Williams the adventurer, the scared child and the hero, all in one performance.
