Our Standards

How we write Past Tunes

Every story on Past Tunes is written from scratch, in our own words, from published sources: books, reputable music histories, chart records, and interviews that artists gave to newspapers, magazines, radio, and television. We do not copy articles from other websites, and we do not reproduce song lyrics beyond a short phrase where it is needed to make a point.

Checking our facts

We aim to check every important fact against at least two published sources before publication. When we spot a mistake after publication, we correct it and note the update on the article, so readers can see what changed.

What we never invent

We never invent quotations, interviews, or anecdotes. If a person is quoted on this site, the words come from a published interview or memoir, and the article says so. If a detail is uncertain, the article says so too, rather than dressing a guess up as a fact.

Pictures

Where a genuine promotional or press photograph is available for editorial use, we use it and credit it beneath the picture. Where no usable photograph exists, we use an AI-generated thematic image — a radio, a record player, a stage, a street at night — and label it as such. We never publish an AI-generated face presented as a real person.

Advertising

Past Tunes is a reader-supported archive. If this site displays advertising in the future, any revenue goes back into hosting and maintaining the archive. Advertising never influences what we write.

Corrections

If you spot an error, please tell us at contact@pasttunes.com. We would rather correct a story than defend it.
