Anchors Aweigh (1945) – Gene Kelly

In Anchors Aweigh (1945), Gene Kelly plays Joseph Brady, a sailor on leave in Hollywood who, with his friend Donald, played by Frank Sinatra, tries to help a young boy find his aunt, a singer played by Kathryn Grayson. Directed by George Sidney, the wartime musical mixes romance, comedy, and spectacular dance numbers.

Kelly’s most famous sequence in the film is his dance with Jerry Mouse, the cartoon star, a technical marvel for its time that combined live action and animation. The film won the Academy Award for Best Music, Scoring of a Musical Picture, and it confirmed Kelly as a major musical star.
