Deloris is back, this time as a music teacher in a struggling school — and Whoopi Goldberg turns a choir of reluctant teenagers into a singing sensation.
Released in 1993, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit returns Goldberg as Deloris Van Cartier, now asked by her convent friends to help save a San Francisco Catholic school by teaching music to a class of unruly students.
Deloris wins over the class with soul, humour and high standards, and their choir becomes the school’s hope. Goldberg plays the role with the same warmth as the first film, and the musical numbers, including a version of Oh Happy Day, are the film’s highlights.
It is a signature sequel role: Goldberg proving that Deloris was not a one-film character, but a beloved creation audiences wanted to see again.
