Anastasia (1956) – Ingrid Bergman

Anastasia (1956) marked Ingrid Bergman’s triumphant return to Hollywood, as Anna Koreff, a woman who may or may not be the lost Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia.

Opposite Yul Brynner as the general who hopes to use her claim, Bergman played Anna with a mixture of uncertainty and dignity. The film follows Anna as she is trained to impersonate a princess, and as she begins to believe in her own identity.

Bergman won her second Academy Award for Best Actress for the role. Anastasia remains a beloved comeback story, both for its heroine and for its star.
