A Star Is Born (1954) – Judy Garland

A Star Is Born (1954) gave Judy Garland her most acclaimed dramatic performance, as Esther Blodgett, a singer who becomes a star while her husband’s career fades.

Opposite James Mason as Norman Maine, Garland played Esther with a depth and maturity that surprised critics. Her musical numbers, including The Man That Got Away, became legendary, and the film was directed by George Cukor.

Garland was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for the role. A Star Is Born remains a landmark in her career, a film that showed she was far more than a musical star.
