Roman Holiday (1953) made Audrey Hepburn a star overnight, as Princess Ann, a young royal who escapes her duties for a day in Rome.
Opposite Gregory Peck as an American journalist, Hepburn played Ann with a joy and freshness that audiences had not seen before. The film, shot on location in Rome, follows Ann as she discovers ordinary pleasures: ice cream, a scooter ride and a dance by the river.
Hepburn won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the role, in her first major Hollywood film. Princess Ann remains the perfect introduction to her screen charm: elegant, funny and deeply human.
