“A View to a Kill” (1985), made for the James Bond film of the same name, is dramatic, elegant and unmistakably Duran Duran. The song pairs a Bond-style sense of danger and glamour with the band’s synth-pop sound, and the result is a theme that works both as a film song and as a pop single. It does not copy earlier Bond themes; it gives the Bond world a 1980s pop voice, bright and confident.

The song stands on its own as a dramatic, well-crafted pop record, and as a fitting peak for Duran Duran’s early-1980s run.
