Funny Face (1957) – Fred Astaire

In Funny Face (1957), Fred Astaire plays Dick Avery, a fashion photographer who discovers Jo Stockton, played by Audrey Hepburn, a bookshop assistant in Greenwich Village, and takes her to Paris for a fashion shoot. Directed by Stanley Donen, with songs by George and Ira Gershwin, the musical follows Dick and Jo as they fall in love among the fashions and the cafes of Paris.

Astaire, in his late fifties, dances with Hepburn with his usual elegance, and the film’s Paris locations and its fashion photography give it a timeless style. Funny Face remains a charming late Astaire musical, and a fitting final film in this set of his signature roles.
