As Lisa Fremont, a fashion-model girlfriend who turns detective, Kelly was the perfect partner for James Stewart in Hitchcock’s masterful thriller.
Rear Window (1954) follows a photographer with a broken leg who watches his neighbours from his apartment and suspects a murder. Kelly plays Lisa’s transformation from glamorous visitor to fearless investigator with wit and courage, and her entrance in a New Look dress is one of cinema’s great moments.
It remains one of Kelly’s most beloved roles, and one of Hitchcock’s finest films.
