The Son of the Sheik is Rudolph Valentino’s final film, in a double role as the Sheik and his son, a romantic adventure that became his farewell to the screen.

The Son of the Sheik (1926), directed by George Fitzmaurice and a sequel to The Sheik, stars Valentino in two roles: Ahmed Ben Hassan, the Sheik, and his son, also called Ahmed, who falls in love with a dancer, Yasmin, and is caught up in a plot of revenge and kidnapping in the desert.

Valentino’s double performance is energetic and romantic, and the film’s desert adventure, with its chases and rescues, gave him a final, fitting showcase. Released shortly before his death, it became his most popular late film and a lasting memorial.

It is a signature role because it is Valentino’s last, because it returns to the Sheik who made him famous, and because it shows, even at the end of a short career, a star still at the height of his screen power.
