In Ticket to Paradise (2022), Julia Roberts played Georgia Cotton, a divorced mother who travels to Bali with her ex-husband David, played by George Clooney, to stop their daughter Lily from marrying a local seaweed farmer. Directed by Ol Parker, the film follows Georgia and David as their old bickering turns back into affection, against a tropical backdrop.
Roberts and Clooney, who had worked together in Ocean’s Eleven and other films, gave the comedy its easy charm. Georgia was sharp, funny and warm, and Roberts played her as a woman rediscovering romance after years of putting family first. The film was a box-office success and a welcome return to romantic comedy for Roberts.
Ticket to Paradise remains a signature Roberts role because it showed that, more than thirty years after Pretty Woman, she could still carry a romantic comedy with the same smile, timing and warmth.
