Top Hat (1935) – Ginger Rogers

In Top Hat (1935), Ginger Rogers plays Dale Tremont, a model who, after a night of dancing with Jerry Travers, played by Fred Astaire, mistakes him for a married man and flees to Venice. Directed by Mark Sandrich, with songs by Irving Berlin, the film follows Dale and Jerry through mistaken identity and romance.

Rogers is radiant in Top Hat, in a feathered gown for Cheek to Cheek, and she matches Astaire’s elegance while also carrying the comedy. Top Hat is often regarded as the finest Astaire-Rogers film, and Rogers’s performance is central to its charm.
