Two for the Road (1967) is a sophisticated portrait of a marriage, as Audrey Hepburn played Joanna Wallace, whose relationship with her husband is told through a series of road trips.
Opposite Albert Finney, Hepburn traced Joanna from young love to a more complicated, mature partnership. The film moves back and forth in time, and Hepburn’s performance gave the story its emotional continuity.
It is a more adult Hepburn role than many of her earlier films, and it showed her range. Joanna is funny, sharp and sometimes difficult, and Hepburn played her with complete honesty.
