I Could Go On Singing (1963) – Judy Garland

I Could Go On Singing (1963) was Judy Garland’s final film, as Jenny Bowman, a celebrated singer who returns to London and reunites with an old love.

Opposite Dirk Bogarde, Garland played Jenny with a mixture of glamour and vulnerability. The film’s concert scenes gave her a chance to perform as herself, in a sense, and her singing remains its greatest strength.

Although the film’s story was not a great success, Garland’s performance was widely praised. Jenny Bowman remains a fitting final screen role, a singer who, like Garland herself, could go on singing.
